THEY SHALL NOT BE ASHAMED, a novel by Ellen Myers.
ISBN 1-59886-13-3-6.
The book is dedicated to those academics, who become Christians and pay the price. Granted these academics don't get shot. But they may be passed over for promotion. I know of one professor, who was not given a raise or sabbatical.
The author originally had an idea for this novel as early as 1946. But
at that time she was not a Christian and the novel was about an artist.
The story for this book takes a different route than the original plan.
This novel is about John Dewey like character who rises to the heights of the academic world, but is in danger of losing his soul.
The author had planned to end the novel with the question being unanswered as to whether this character became a Christian. But she changed the ending to the character becoming a Christian. But that
is not the end of the story. The story continues with the main characters life as a Christian.
The book is quire involved touching on a number of issues. The author read extensively in philosophy during her pre-Christian days. Those years were not completely wasted. The LORD used those years to provide
the author with background material for her book. The author also
interwove her reading in Christian apologetics into the book. Sort
of like C.S. Lewis, one of her favorite authors.
I guess one can call it Christian apologetics in novel form. But the book is highly readable. I don't think the author comes across as
"preaching." I read a rough draft of the book and thumbed through
a printed edition. For those who can't stand dry apologetics books, this is a must read.
Another book, which one might want to read in conjunction
with this book is HOODWINKED by Jack Cashill. this book shows how the public has been misled and "miseducated" (propagandized or brainwashed) on many issues. What is most interesting is Cashill's debunking of Darwinian proof in his chapter, which I think is entitled Darwin and his heirs.
