The Green Library (Humanities) offers the public 7 free visits a
year. I believe it is $ 5 a visit afterwards. One registers at a
terminal which is located on the left hand side as one enters the
library. The person at the "gate" which scan you in after you
register.
I understand that one can join a friends of the Stanford Library for
$35, to be renewed every August. The membership allows access to
about a number of different libraries including Green.
Since I have never used the Green library more than 7 times I don't
see much of a need to join. But I may. To make photocopies, one must
purchase a copy card. One simply purchases the card and swipes the
card in the machine reader. When one is finished, one hits the quit
button. There is an advantage to such a system. Instead of leaving
the card in the copy machine for use, swiping the card, minimizes the
chance of misplacing the card. When I was at Kinko's I apparently
left my card in the machine and forgot about it. It cost me some
money.
I also learned that the Lane Medical library is free. It used to be
restricted to 7 free visits a year. The Medical library and the Green
library are apparently different systems. The card which I purchased
for the Green library did not work at Lane.
For those of you who may be visiting the area of Stanford; you might
find this a nice resource.
I don't know about the other libraries. In the past I was able to
visit the biology library without any problems. The Geology library
simply asked you to sing in. Off limits were the law and business
libraries.
