ANOTHER SHOOTING IN JAPAN- ANOTHER FAILURE OF GUN CONTROL

A policeman, Mr. Hayashi, was shot and killed during a hostage
situation. The suspect is a former gang member. He also shot and
wounded his son and daughter. He was holding his wife hostage. His
wife was able to escape after 23 hours. The suspect later surrendered.

Gun control advocates naively (or dishonestly) assert that gun control
will do away with crime. Unfortunately for ordinary law abiding
citizens, criminals and gangsters don't obey the gun control laws.
Recently the mayor of Nagasaki was gunned down by a gangster. Guess
who committed this latest shooting? A "former" gangster.

If guns were real cause of crime, then Switzerland should have the
highest homicide rate. Adult males in Switzerland are issued military
assault rifles. In Israel, the Israeli's allow come to carry
concealed weapons. Also please note that violent crime went UP not
down with Australia's gun confiscation. Mike Royko, who used to be a
critic of the NRA, began to notice that the high crime areas were the
ones with gun control laws. I think he began to wise up and question
the wisdom of gun control laws as a deterrent to crime. As he pointed
out even toilet bowls have been used as murder weapons, simply by
holding someone's head underwater. I doubt if there is a toilet bowl
abolition movement, but who knows?

As my somewhat liberal friend once pointed out the police aren't
always there when you need them. And even when they are there, they
may not be able to do much. The hostage situation is still on going.
That "former" gangster is still in his house. The hostage has escaped.
Why are the police still waiting? Perhaps gun control advocates have
a pampered sense of security, because they have bodyguards. Well,
these limousine liberals seem unaware of the fact that the average
citizen cannot afford two bodyguards.

Abolishing guns in the U.S.A will not solve the guns coming into
Japan, since the guns are coming from Russia and China. Russian
military have sold their weapons for money.

What can be done? Well, allowing the law abiding citizens of Japan to
defend themselves should be part of the solution. Why should the law
abiding ones be victims of the gangsters? I wonder if militias can be
formed? About the time the loyalists overthrew the Shogunate, the
loyalists had militia groups of mixed samurai and peasants. These
militias were equipped with American Civil War weapons. In spite of
the Tokugawa ban on guns, that did stop the loyalists from secretly
purchasing these weapons. These Civil War weapon gave the loyalists a
technological advantage over the Shogunate.

If militias are not an option. Then maybe the Japan Self Defense force
ought to be brought to bear on these gangsters. Police batons are
not enough to stop gangsters. But I think the best solution is to
allow the Japanese citizens to defend themselves and band together if
necessary for defense. Remember in movie THE SEVEN SAMURAI, the
samurai did not beat the bandits by themselves. The peasants fought as
well.
