Iraqi hardliners had holed up in his mosque, even as he had encouraged Iraqis to stay home and let America secure the city. Is there a religious war brewing? If so, who started it? And would it be smart for Sunnis, in a shot at one last hurrah, to launch a religious war when Shia outnumber Sunnis by a factor of 3 or 4 in Iraq? Final question: What's up with this? [The shrine] holds the tomb of the Shiites' most beloved saint, Imam Ali Ibn Abu Talib, the Prophet Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law.Not a good day for the religion of peace, in any case. * * *
