Actually, though, humor is a mechanism for releasing tension by collapsing life into digestible pieces such that the overall seriousness of it is a little diminished and the more ridiculous side of our nature is exposed. God, those sentences sound dry. But we'll leave 'em for the hell of it, and close with one of the jokes: "There are now reports that Saddam Hussein was injured in the initial bombing and he's now receiving medical care in an underground bunker," Leno said recently. "He asked his doctors if he was going to live, and they told him, 'Oh yeah, absolutely, you'll live. Until the Americans get here – then you're screwed.'" - Jay Leno * * *
