SARS Leaked Through PipesWHO explains Hong Kong outbreak
HONG KONG — Leaky sewage pipes and bathroom ventilation fans carried contaminated droplets through parts of a Hong Kong apartment complex, causing one of the world's worst outbreaks of SARS, World Health Organization investigators said Friday.35 dead and countless others infected in the Amoy Gardens complex. Reading this story, Amoy Gardens of Honk Kong just doesn't sound as exotic as it might.
We often hear of places being death traps because of poor construction, shaky foundations or too much dried timber in the frame, but bad plumbing? In an earlier day, yes; in a city like Hong Kong in the third millenium, it seems odd, however.
