Sunday, May 29, 2005Today the Libertarian side of the TurkeyBlog is writing:‘It didn’t harm him,’ mother says of effect on 16-year-old son The Associated Press Here's your key graf: Anette Pharris took photos at the party and tried to have them developed at a nearby drug store. Drug store employees notified authorities, police said.Forget the prudish state that knows better than you what your kids can handle. Forget the sanctimonious cop ("A person shouldn’t be allowed to circumvent that law [against adult entertainment for minors] by hiring a stripper, a lady who took all her clothes off and spent a good amount of time dancing around minors.") Forget that had the woman popped in a video showing the same thing but giving the money to Hollywood instead of a struggling edyciast, the ACLU would be behind her all the way except that nobody would have said anything to begin with. The moral of the story is: Don't develop your film at the drugstores, people! Get a digital camera or make friends with a developer. You may think they're out of line, but drugstores are an arm of the health establishment. They have an obligation to protect the unprotected, to make sure that young folks are safe from sexual influences that might prove harmful - be it pictures of a naked eight year old in the sprinkler or a clothed 16 year-old with a stripper. It's for your own good. And the good of the children. This same obligation to children is why they would have sold the same young man a box of condoms when he was 13 - without a peep to anyone. And the same reason why judges give the okay for 14 year-olds getting abortions without parental notification while jailing 18 year-olds if they take a questionable photo of their 17 year-old girlfriend. Does it all make sense now?
