Mustapha Shag, the Tooth Fairy and the Muslim world's favorite blow-up dolls! This Mark Steyn column has it all.

While we're doing the "I'm so offended" bit, I'm offended that we treat with people who carry signs reading "Behead the enemies of Islam". It's time to tell them to get their noses out of our culture, out of our countries and out of our ports, for the folks taking over the NYC ports.

If moderate Muslims wish to live in the West, they are welcome to do so - just so long as they channel their frustrations with our culture in the ways that, say, Christian conservatives and left-wing Socialists do so... running for office, boycotting the local video store and making people wish they hadn't run for school board, say. But calls for violence or the conviction that you can disrupt the procedures of an orderly and civilized society because your vision of God wants you to... the last thing this country needs is for a bunch of Muslims to go all Pat Robertson on us, if you know what I mean.

Part of living in the United States is the opportunity to have your cultures and beliefs trashed. Instead of exercise, for example, I just read the NYT editorial page when I want an elevated heart rate for twenty minutes or so. On the upside, I get to write a blog that perhaps does the same thing to one or two of its half dozen readers. Those who can't figure out how this works or how to live with it are plainly in the wrong place. Because in this country, our rights start with the right to believe and say what we want. Next on the list is our right to carry weapons, lest anyone get any ideas about the first rights.

It's sad that Europe crapped on Voltaire, the man who said "I may disagree with what you say but I'll die fighting your right to say it." But he would have seen it coming. The U.S. must take care to make sure we don't follow Europe's lead. Indeed, now's about the time we need to be stiffening their spines to repel those who are landing on her shores with visions of conquest, rather than assimilation. Because if history is any guide, if the latest round of fascist totalitarians get a grip on power, we're going to wind up bailing them out, whether they deserve it or not. It's a rough challenge. But if we're doing it, however slowly, in Iraq and Afghanistan, there may yet be hope for even France.

Vive la liberté! A bas les fascistes! Let us act now, since it's better than acting later.
