From PJM:06:07 PDT Israeli Foreign minister Livni meets a UN delegation that presents a cease-fire package and hints Israel won’t rule out international force in Southern Lebanon, Haaretz reports: “Livni said that while Israel would prefer the deployment of the Lebanese army in the south of the country, “we will consider other solutions put forward.” “If there is a need to strengthen the Lebanese army somehow, so that the military in south Lebanon is effective, and prevents Hezbollah from returning, we will consider ways to do achieve this,” Livni said.” Interesting. Like the U.S. asking Mexico to control its border, if you think about it.
As I said before, if you don't control your borders, you aren't a sovereign nation (a problem we have too, it's worth noting). I think that given the circumstances, Israel has the right to take strong measures to assure its own sovereignty. And I don't think its demand that Lebanon actually police its own country is unreasonable. It shows, in fact, that Israel is a serious nation, but not an aggressor at all, regardless of what some might say.
